Lord Cycles, Cardiff

There is something alluring about a workshop.

It does not matter what is being crafted, theres always a feeling of “if these walls could speak”. Snippets of new beginnings, light bulb moments, frustration, catastrophes and victories - they embed themselves into the space.

I was lucky enough to be invited into Chris’s space where he hand builds bicycle frames designed for trailblazers and adventurers.

I’ll leave the flouncy explanations of why I love his work and hopefully the imagery will showcase his talent and dedication.

Till next time

Incorporating Play - Angharad.Co, Cardiff

July 18, 2023

Picture the scene, it’s late June, the weather is heavy with heat and the sun is relentless.

Rocking up to the Sustainable Studio in Cardiff bay, the passing tele handler kicks up plumes of dust from the gravel carpark.

After a few moments, a super smiley, excited Angharad pokes her head outta the door and offers a hello.

From here, we catch up and talk through our plans for the day.

The brief is playful.

Something I’m not generally used to, always favouring dark shadows and moodiness.

We are both completely out of our comfort zones.

However, with all that aside, what happened next was one of the best days shooting I’ve had since the very early days. Nothing but sheer fun and experimentation.

Angharad is a designer and creative in every meaning of the word. She boasts the most impeccable style in both design style, art taste and boiler suit choices.

Talk to her for more than five minutes and try not to think outside the box. I challenge you.

No News Is Bad News

July 14, 2023

Hey Bud,

How you doing?

Something feel familiar? Yup… I’ve moved back to Squarespace again in order to make my portfolio easier to view.

Just wanted to drop in and say hello. I’m currently in the process of getting all my old blog posts back so you have something to read next time you’re bored. Though in typical me fashion, all the images are scattered across variable hard drives.

Should hopefully be sorted soon.

In the mean time, here’s Olin with his favourite water pistol.

Nice to see you here again.

Studio Sessions w/ Pete Walsh

July 01, 2023

Recently caught up with old friend, Pete Walsh.

Nestled in the corner of his loft, Pete leaned over his Mac and clicked play on his latest song. Having heard the demo during lockdown, it was nice to hear it in its latest iteration. Pete’s almost vulnerable vocals piercing through the accompanying sound of guitar and strings, with occasional piano keys hammering through.

He’s back.

Since Forbidden Road, Pete’s moved through multiple stages of his life. His music has remained present but not necessarily dominant. As a result, his latest offering “Lies” offers a something new. A commentary of his experiences and discoveries over the last decade.

To accompany his latest musical endeavours, Pete wanted to update his imagery.

We decided to take influence from both the albums and artists we love. Focusing on portraiture and moments “behind the scenes”. It felt like a good fit. Pete’s approach and sound is reminiscent of the sixties and seventies, so faded grainy imagery felt right.

The goal here was to create images that wouldn’t look out of place on Vinyl covers.

I’m stoked to hear Pete writing again. I’m super stoked at the prospect of having a new collection to listen to in the near future.

Very grateful to be a part of his process in a small way.

Whilst you, peruse the examples below, why not give “Forbidden Road” a listen?!
